The Huts at Poplar Stream, Flagstaff Lake, Grand Falls and the latest addition at Stratton Brook are the first huts constructed in the Maine Huts & Trails System. Each features a large dining area, comfortable bunkrooms, welcome amenities like hot showers, home-cooked meals, and friendly fellow travelers giving Maine multi-day hiking trips a whole new meaning!

The vision for Maine Huts & Trails is to create a 180 mile non-motorized trail with up to 12 rustic yet very comfortable huts. You can enjoy the four three huts and great hiking trails  located right in our back yard just across the Kennebec River and nearby Dead River.

Description Starting at Northern Outdoors lodge you will be shuttled to the NEW Route 201 Trailhead in The Forks, from where you will hike 14+ miles along the scenic Dead River Valley to Maine Huts & Trails Grand Falls Hut. Enjoy a home cooked dinner served family style at the hut and then the quiet comfort at the hut, or take a short stroll down to the Dead River. You'll get to stay overnight in the eco-friendly hut and wake up to a hearty breakfast. Your whitewater raft guide will meet you at the hut and outfit you for your trip on the Dead River.

Then it’s off to raft 14 miles of the Class IV Dead River. After rafting you’ll enjoy a bar-b-que cookout at Northern Outdoors Adventure Resort in The Forks where your car will be waiting for you.You can also choose to add an extra night of lodging at Northern Outdoors and enjoy the giant outdoor hot tub, the Kennebec River Pub & Brewery and live music in the main lodge.

for an initial night stay in a logdominium.

Shuttle transportation (90-minutes or so) to the MH & T trailhead in Carrabassett Valley.
Short hike to the Poplar Stream hut
Dinner at Poplar Stream hut.

Day 2
Breakfast at the Poplar Stream hut

Hike to the Flagstaff Lake hut
Time to swim, relax and enjoy Flagstaff Lake
