Special Kennebec High Release: Adrenaline Whitewater!

Join us on these special whitewater releases as the Kennebec River will be flowing at nearly DOUBLE its normal volume. FPL will be testing their generating turbines by releasing the maximum amount of water possible from Harris Station.

This is an "aggressive, high adventure white water rafting trip" ... only those with a "GO FOR IT!" attitude should sign up.

High Adventure Raft Option : Sport Raft Adventures

Want some extra thrills added to your day on the Kennebec? Try one of our Sport rafts. Specially designed for a livelier ride, these rafts are shorter, narrower, and have a smaller tube diameter that puts you up close and personal with the river.

Recommended for experienced paddlers only, minimum age of 15 years old.
Available May, June, September, and October. Weekdays only in July & August.
Add $20 to standard price. Minimum 4 people required for trip departure.

What's the Difference Between the Upper and Lower Sections of the Kennebec River?

Upper Gorge section: ages 10 and up (4.5 miles)
Lower Kennebec section: ages 8 and up (7.5 miles)

Kids 8 & 9 years old can raft the Lower section of the river in a paddle raft. Your children are with you for the entire pre-trip orientation and bus ride to the dam. After waving you off at the Upper Gorge put-in, your children are supervised by our support staff for about an hour and a half as you tackle the Class IV rapids of the Upper Gorge. They rejoin you in your paddle raft 4.5 miles below your starting point (below major rapids), but just above our riverside lunch site at Carry Brook. Your children enjoy lunch with you and together we spend the afternoon on the lower river, paddling through some easier rapids, swimming, and trying out the inflatable kayaks.

Lower Kennebec Float Trip

This self-guided trip starts at take-out of the main Kennebec River rafting trip, below all the major rapids of the Upper and Lower sections. This part of the river, below The Forks, meanders at a much slower pace, ideal for those who want to spend an afternoon drifting carefree with their friends or splashing around with the family. You can rent easy-to-paddle inflatable kayaks and enjoy the river at your own pace.

Gentle Class I-II float for 5 miles
Put-in at The Forks, take-out across from Northern Outdoors' Forks Resort Center
Minimum Age: 8 years
Great trip for elementary school age kids through active seniors
