Moosehead Lake / Moxie Mountain Tour (6-8 hours)
Ascend out of the Kennebec River Valley to breathtaking vistas of Western Maine's Appalachian Mountains. Ride well groomed ITS 86 to the shores of Maine's largest lake, Moosehead. At noon you'll relax and enjoy a hearty lunch at a local eatery with a great view of the ice bound lake. Then after lunch, you'll head out to the B-52 Crash Site. Parts of the wreckage of the huge plane that slammed into Elephant Mountain in 1963 still remain. In the afternoon you'll wind through the majestic North Woods forest before some wide open cruising along one of the most scenic snowmobile trails in Maine. Cruise ITS 87 in the shadow of the rugged windswept peaks of Moxie Mountain, the dominant centerpiece of the area. We'll take a short trip up the side of the mountain and take in the impressive views of Sugarloaf and the Bigelow Range, before we make a late afternoon descent back to the comforts of The Forks Resort Center.Grand Falls / Coburn Mountain Tour (6-8 hours)
In the morning, after a brief stop at Berry's Store in the old logging village of West Forks, we'll ride scenic ITS 86 over to Grand Falls on the Dead River. The frozen 35 foot high horseshoe falls is a spectacular sight, and a favorite photo stop. After some coffee and light snacks, we'll tour the high altitude Shutdown Loop with its wide open cruising and spectacular vistas. At noon, we'll pull into Bull Dog Sporting Camps on Enchanted Pond for a hearty home cooked lunch. The log camps are a throwback in time ... rustic, remote, and unspoiled ... a warm, welcoming oasis in the North Woods. In the afternoon, we'll head out on Maine's highest elevation groomed trail to the top of Coburn Mountain. Take in the boundless views of western Maine's mountains and lakes from the summit before the final cruise on ITS 87 back to Northern Outdoors.Minimum of four sleds required for tour departure
