Maine Snowmobiling Season Opening Day at Northern Outdoors

2 weeks until opening day on December 27th, and we’ve got all hands on deck to get the trails and adventure resort ready. Maine received some great early season snow, with about 2 feet on the ground just out of the Kennebec River valley. This, combined with cold temps, has provided a great base for the trails. However, we have to keep in mind a couple of important things before we head off on the trails just yet.

Landowners for The Forks Area Trail System have not switched to their winter logging operations yet. There may be plowed roads where the snowmobile trail will be located this winter, but are not ready for our access yet. Please respect the landowner’s wishes and DO NOT RIDE on plowed roads. Be aware and respectful of logging operations.

Furthermore, the cold in early December has helped lock up the water and get frost on the ground. However, there may still be wet spots or flowing water across the trail. Stay off lakes. Additionally, we have not completed our pre-season trail work and are just getting started on signage.

Packing down the trail on November 29th, 2019

So in conclusion- we’re excited to ride, but we have to remain smart. Northern Outdoors will begin grooming operations and have The Forks Area Trail System ready by December 27th. Any riding on our trail system prior to that date is ride at your own risk. Please be safe out there.

Until then, stay up to date with our trail reports, emailed directly to you as soon as we get the good word from our groomers (sign up below). Check out our cabins and book online or give us a call at (207) 663-4466. Keep an eye on our webcam and we’ll see you all soon!
