New England Breweries: Friends of the Industry Special

Rafting and beer are a great combo. Well, when done in the right order of course. There’s nothing quite like topping off an awesome day on the river with a delicious, craft Maine beer. As Maine’s only outdoor adventure resort with an on-site brewery (yeah, pretty rare), we are stoked to say you can do just that here in The Forks, Maine!

Join us for 10% off raft trips for beer industry friends!

Brewery - Summer Rafting in Maine

Northern Outdoors started in 1976 as a rafting company. When home-brewer Jim Yearwood joined the ranks in 1981 as a raft guide, he hadn’t intended on sticking around for as long as he did. But stick around he did, and in 1996 he decided to kick his home-brewing gig up a notch by starting a brewery onsite at our adventure resort. And so the Kennebec River Brewery was formed. In early 2000s, Jim sought out Mike McConnell, who was running a brewery with his father in Connecticut, to help bring Kennebec River Brewery to new levels. Mike is still running the show to this day, with a 500 barrel capacity Pierre Rajotte system. Our brewery doesn’t distribute, so you have to come up to enjoy these fine brews. And we hope you do!

Northern Outdoors Adventure Resort Pool and Hot Tub
Northern Outdoors runs rafting trips daily on the Kennebec River from our base in The Forks, Maine, where our main adventure resort is located (along with Kennebec River Brewery). In addition to the Kennebec River trip, there are tons of other things to do here (hike, bike, fish, float, to name a few) as well as multiple indoor and outdoor lodging options.

The Penobscot River is located near Baxter State Park, so these trips are run out of our Katahdin Adventure Basecamp outside of Millinocket, Maine. Our Katahdin Adventure Basecamp is located at Big Moose Inn Cabins and Campground, with inn rooms and suites, lakefront cabins, free WiFi, and a rural, wooded campground.

Whatever direction you go, there are lots of great breweries to hit up for a flight on your way! (Masons Brewing Company in Brewer is right off I95 near Bangor on your way north, Bigelow Brewing Company in Skowhegan is just a touch off your route to The Forks, and Bissell Brothers Three Rivers is between our Forks Resort and Katahdin Base Camp). If you need other breweries to visit, check out Steph’s list of “off the beaten path” breweries!
