Safety Boating on the Dead River

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to row-frame the Dead River with two other guides providing safety for the ACA. Northern Outdoors donated the safety boats for the last two days of the ACA Nationals. Saturday the river was flowing at 3000 cfs and Sunday was an epic 5000 cfs.

Coming down Hayden’s Landing on the Dead River, I was surprised to see a lost sole perched on a rock in the middle of the river holding his paddle. Corey (left) was one of the youngest competitors competing in the ACA (American Canoe Association) Nationals. Lucky for him, Justin (right) and I were accepting hitchhikers that day. The canoe was another boater’s vessel found twirling in an eddy.
