16 Jan Visit Winter Markets on Maine Adventure Vacations
It is a common misconception that farmer’s markets are only warm weather ventures. While it is true that fresh produce is most easily obtained in the warmer months, winter markets have much to offer as well.
From the home-canned fruits of the fall harvest to jams and syrups and spice mixes, the foods available in the winter are tastey and hearty. Meats and baked goods are available year round, as are many seafoods and locally roasted coffees and herbal teas. Handmade goods such as scarves, hats, purses and baskets can also be found.
Visitors should plan to explore some of these year-round markets, and add some local goods to the kitchen, whether for the rental cabin or for back home.
