We had the best time!

My boyfriend and I drove up from Boston Saturday morning and got to the Northern Outdoors site about 2:30pm. We had lunch and watched everyone come back from their trips. It was great because you got to see the slide show and video, so it gave us some idea of what to expect.
Neither of us had ever been whitewater rafting. And neither of us is very outdoorsy or athletic. Yet, I’ve always wanted to go white water rafting.

So, we got there about 2:30pm, we got to check in to our room, which we not were expecting. So that was good. We stayed in one of the Logdominiums over night. They were great. You can bring your own food, there is a little kitchenette. The cabins looked great. It would be great to bring a bunch of people and stay for a few days or a week. You can build campfires, etc.

We ate in the main lodge Saturday afternoon. The food was good. We drank the beer that is made right down stairs, it was great. There was a band Saturday night and there were a lot of people dancing and having a great time. The atmosphere is great and fun and relaxed. We loved it.

Sunday we got up and got ready to brave the rapids. Got all our stuff, it was cold so we all got on wet suits. So that took the longest, just getting everything set and ready to go. Then we took a 30 minute bus ride to the launch site. The most nerve wracking part for me was when we had to bring the raft down really steep, wet, metal stairs! I’m afraid of heights so that really was the scariest part for me.

Dave, our guide, was AWESOME!!! I can’t say enough about him. He was nice, knowledgable, fun and patient. I’m a teacher, so I can imagine the patience this guy must have to deal with novice rafters. Amazing! We had a great time. he told us the story of how Northern Outdoors started, showed us a bunch of little highlights along the way. We saw a waterfall, bald eagle, very cool.

One of the people on our boat did fall out. And I think within a minute Dave had her back in the boat. I was SO impressed! The water was up that day, so we had quite the experience!!!

We had our lunch back at the lodge. I know a lot of people had complained. But I was SOOOOO happy that we did that. The last thing I wanted to do was sit on the side of the river with a wet, smelly wetsuit on waiting for my steak to be grilled and eat standing up. Not exactly my cut of tea. So I was SO glad we ate at the lodge. Plus, we got to have a beer with our steak! Yum. The food was really good. We both had steak, it was amazing, with rice and vegetables and cookie!

I can’t wait to come back. I’ve been telling all my friends!!!! Even though it is three days later and my thighs are still burning, I can’t wait to go back and do it again!!! Thanks for a great weekend!!!
