New! Geocaching High Tech Treasure Hunts Are Fun For Everyone

These high tech treasure hunts have proven a big hit in the past couple of years. Find out why all ages love this new “sport” of go-your-own-pace adventures. Learn new skills in the morning, then if you're hooked take it a step further and apply your new found skills and search for hidden "caches" along the Old Canada Road National Scenic Byway in the afternoon. 

 

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for GPS users. You get to hike in the woods and  use the high tech features of the GPS unit to find small hidden "caches". These caches exist all over the world; the locations are shared via GPS coordinates on the internet.

Beginner's Geocaching Field Class

If you are new to geocaching? Don't know what the acronym GPS actually stands for? It's ok, we all have to be beginners before we can be experts, right? We'll get you started with our new Beginner's Geocaching Field Class, available July through October at our Forks Resort Center.

Field Class Details	Descriptions
What Class Includes	Professional Registered Maine Guide instructs each trip Full use of the amenities at The Forks Resort Center
Class Length/Duration	Morning introduction (2.5 hours) to Geocaching, includes: 1 hour orientation at the Lodge followed by 1.5+ hour Self Guided Discovery and Geocache Treasure Hunt on the grounds of The Forks Resort Center. Optional afternoon, Explore sections of The Old Canada Road, National Scenic Byway looking for hidden clues and uncovering the history of the Upper Kennebec Valley.
Meeting Location & Time	The Forks Resort Center, 9:30am
Prices	Field Class: $28 per person, (Kids 8-15 1/2 price) Includes GPS Rental. Minimum group size of 4 people required for field class to run.

 

Self-Guided Geocaching Treasure Hunts

If you don't need instruction but want to rent a GPS for the day to try Geocaching for yourself, pick up your "treasure hunt" information from our main lodge at The Forks Resort Center, set your GPS coordinates, and you're off at your own pace to find carefully hidden caches across the 250 acres of our Adventure Resort.  Kids and beginners will love the special blend of high tech toys and classic searches for Treasure!

• Season: Year-round

• GPS rental $15 per day . $10 per half day

• Geocaching materials include a printed map of area trails and Northern Outdoors Adventure Resort, GPS coordinates for private hidden caches (4 caches hidden to-date)
