Kennebec River Float Trip

A relaxing float down Maine’s lower Kennebec River. With easier maneuverability and control than tubing, our inflatable kayaks are suited for one or two paddlers each and are the perfect afternoon activity! Paddle and explore or relax and float down the calm lower river right back to the Adventure Resort in The Forks.

Inflatable Kayaks are Similar to Tubing…

…but with more control and maneuverability than round river tubes! You can paddle around to all the inlets and mini rapids if you want, or you can kick back, relax, and let the river do the work. Plenty of room for two in each kayak, but it’s also easy to paddle solo. With a 1:00pm start, the float trip is the perfect afternoon activity for those looking to relax and soak up some sunshine. Pack a cooler, and let’s go floatin’!

Your Afternoon River Float:

Afternoon Check in

Kennebec River Float Trips meet in the main lodge of The Forks Adventure Resort at 1:00pm. Please arrive ready to go with water-friendly clothing and shoes. After you fill out your release form, your Registered Maine Whitewater Guide will fit you for PFDs (Personal Flotation Device) and wetsuits if needed. You may bring a small cooler or dry bag for personal items. The guide will drive you to the drop-off point and give you instruction before you’re off on a self-guided float.

Your Afternoon Float

Your float starts 4 miles north of our resort, well below the rapids of the upper and lower sections. Here, the river meanders at a much slower pace, ideal for those who want to drift carefree with their friends or splash around with the family in easy-to-paddle inflatable kayaks. Float on easy class 1-2 rapids, paddle to inlets, and keep your eyes out for eagle and osprey diving for fish! After approximately 1 to 2 hours (depending on how much you paddle), you’ll be back at the Northern Outdoors campground, where you can pull off to the side of the river, leave your kayak, and walk back to the resort.

Post River Float

You won’t even need a shuttle after your paddle– you’ll end up right across from the Northern Outdoors Adventure Resort with its giant outdoor hot tub, swimming pool, cabins and brewpub!
