On The Trails Report- Snowmobiling to Grands Falls on the Dead River, March 20 2015

Grand Falls Dead River Ride - Northern Outdoors SnowmobilingThis week's video shows you the ride out to Grand Falls on the Dead River, from Northern Outdoors in The Forks, then ends with some awesome spring whitewater footage of action on the Dead River! One of the "must stop" locations within The Forks Area Trail Network is Grand Falls on the Dead River. Over 100 feet wide and 35 feet tall, Grand Falls is an intense river-wide waterfall that in winter becomes enveloped in a world of snow and ice. The ride to Grand Falls is one of our recommended rides in The Forks Area Trail Network. It's a scenic ride along the Kennebec and then the Dead Rivers, leaving from Northern Outdoors in The Forks. The perfect lunch stop is the Grand Falls Hut, part of the Maine Huts & Trails system. It's only 2 miles from the falls. Zach had a lot of fun on this late spring ride to the falls, and the conditions continue to be stellar for March riding! Check it out for yourself. Once there though, Zach, (who doubles as a snowmobile guide and river guide) couldn't help but think about the upcoming rafting season. This much snow means a very fun spring on the river! Opening day of whitewater rafting on the Dead River is May 2nd - it's not that far away, and within a few short weeks, all that frozen snow and ice is going to melt and start running down river, forming crashing waves, sticky holes, eddy lines...whitewater!
Your Family Package was a great way to introduce our two suburban, TV loving children to the wonders of Maine. And, it didn't hurt that the whitewater rafting was more exciting than any theme park ride! Our family will definitely be back.

Just had the best time ever rafting the Kennebec. Will be back to do Dead River and the Penobscot. Thank you all for such a fantastic time. The staff/ guides are all stars. Hopefully see you all next year
