Snowmobile Trail Conditions Report: The Forks, Maine January 2025

The Forks Area Trail Report – January 31st, 2025

Notice groomers will be out today.
Trails keep getting better and better, a little more snow this week and more on the way. We are grooming regularly.

ITS 87 Most of the system is groomed. We will be finishing the connection today to Bingham, they have groomed as of last night. In town is thin but very passable.
ITS 86 Groomed and overall in good to great condition. Powerline sections around Moxie Pond are thin but passable. Trail follows Indian Pond Road powerline on the woods line. You’re rewarded with some great conditions on the Loop and Dyer Road. Please stay on the trail, we know it’s not ideal with the low snow conditions but a reminder unless otherwise noted, no snowmobiling on plowed roads. It’s not just a risk for a ticket, it’s a landowner request. We do not want to lose this critical access point. We have worked hard to secure this access this year.
Pleasant Pond Trail Groomed and in great condition. You can head on ITS87 south to connect with this trail, connect to the Bald Mountain Trail, then to the Breakneck Ridge Trail over to the Shirley Tote Road / CCC Road for the best connection to Greenville and Monson area.
Bald Mountain Trail Groomed and in great condition.
Breakneck Ridge Trail Groomed and in great condition. Connection to Blanchard remains closed, temp rerouted to York road/Shirley Tote Road.
Moxie Mtn Loop Trail Will be groomed today.
Kennebec River Trail Ungroomed until we get more snow but passable.
Moxie Falls Trail Ungroomed but passable.
Caratunk Spur Ungroomed but passable.

The Forks Area Trail Report – January 24th, 2025

Groomers in The Forks area have been out the past couple of days working with what we’ve got– they’ve groomed and/or panned much of our system, and are reporting some decent riding in addition to some thin areas. As you get out of town towards Jackman, conditions improve- with nice riding being reported on from Border Riders Sportsman’s Club. The benefit to this year as opposed to early last year is we’ve had super consistent cold temps- so things have locked up real nice, and we haven’t lost any of the snow we’ve gotten. Now, we could definitely use more snow- that would fill in the thin spots. But, can you ride? Yes, you can! Northern Outdoors/Kennebec River Brewery will be open the following hours this weekend/next week so you can stop on by! The hill behind the lodge is thin, but has been detoured around the toughest section. If you venture that way, just follow signs!

Kennebec River Brewery Hours starting January 25th:
Saturday, Sunday: 7am-9pm
Monday – Friday: 11am-9pm

Read on for Trailmaster Ben’s latest update–

While some of you may be trailering to Louisiana this week for the fresh powder, we do have riding and some decent local trails to explore.

There is no sugar coating the fact we need more snow, but… there are some very good areas to play on. Treat as early season riding conditions and think back to when you were a kid… being on a sled on some trails is better than staying at home. What’s also better is getting out with your friends and family, going for a short ride, and visiting the local watering holes and eating, drinking and telling tall tales to your favorite staff member. Stay the night, heck maybe ride out and help do some brushing on a trail.

ITS 87 Partially groomed/panned. In town is passable but won’t be groomed until more snow. Just out of town, just east and south of Inn by the River, trail is groomed all the way to the Pleasant Pond Trail. Various conditions.
ITS 86 groomed/panned through. Trail this year follows the powerlines up the Indian Pond Road to the Dyer Road. Use caution on the powerlines. At our turn around at the Greenville/Rockwood intersection is ungroomed but Greenville is going out tonight to try and get to that spot. Certainly passable.
Pleasant Pond Trail Groomed/panned through. Mixed bag. Some really really good areas on this trail.
Bald Mountain Trail Partially groomed. The upper portion on Shirley Tote Road is plowed so avoid that section. Bottom section is in really good shape. Trail to windmills is closed.
Breakneck Ridge Trail groomed/panned and eastern side is now open through the York Road back to the Shirley Tote Road / ccc road. Trail to Blanchard is temp closed for logging. Trail is in very good condition considering.
Kennebec River Trail Ungroomed. Passable but the steep hill by the cemetery is for advanced riders only. And for those who really are looking for reasons to buy new carbides.
Caratunk Spur Ungroomed but passable.
Moxie loop trail Ungroomed but passable.
Moxie falls trail Ungroomed but passable.

I will be posting an updated map today.

Thank you. Please get out, support the businesses, watch the football games up here.

The Forks Area Trail Report – January 17th, 2025

The Forks Area Trails Update
January 17, 2025

Club Updates –
(Trails, Work Detail, and Poker Run)

Trail Conditions
The trails are in a bit of a “snow limbo” right now. We need a solid storm to really get things rolling—unfortunately, a couple of inches just won’t cut it. Current snow coverage ranges from a few inches in the lower areas to about a foot in the higher elevations. Are the trails open? Well, technically, no—but if you’re feeling adventurous and want to explore, we won’t stop you. Just keep in mind that not all signage is up, as we’re still working on some sections of trails (see below- work day coming up!)

Weekend Poker Run
Yes, the poker run is still happening this weekend! It’s a multi-day event, so make sure to get out there and support the clubs and businesses that have worked tirelessly to clear and maintain the trails. That last storm did a number on some areas, but the community has really pulled together to make it happen.

Trail Work Day – Saturday
This Saturday, we’re hosting a trail work day, and we’d love to have you join us! Bring your sleds, side-by-sides, brush saws, and a can-do attitude. Once we wrap up, we’ll be hitting up the local watering holes to toast to our hard work—because nothing pairs better with trail clearing than a little post-work celebration.

If you’re interested in helping, reach out to myself, Jeremy Parker , or Keven Griffiths (see Facebook post here)

Quick note for trail cleanup crews: We’re looking to clear a 12 x 12 x 12 section wide enough for the groomer to get through. A few volunteers have already gone through and declared some areas “good to go,” but unfortunately, it’s only wide enough for sleds. Let’s fix that!

Thank You for Your Patience
Cold temperatures are doing wonders for freezing the ground—it’s better than we’ve seen in years. We’re optimistic that when the snow comes, we’ll have an excellent base to work with. In the meantime, don’t forget to support the local businesses that keep things running up here in the winter. It’s all part of the system, and every bit helps.

The Forks Area Snowmobile Trails Report- February 20th, 2025

CALLING ALL SLEDDERS! NOW is the time to ride. Trails are the best they have been all year. Heck, best in years! The last two storms have filled in many of the rough woods and powerline sections. Like the other clubs, we have been battling brutal cold and brutal winds, creating lots of drifts and making grooming a challenge with low to no visibility. We have been out day and night getting things under control.

ITS 87 Groomed and in great to excellent condition.
ITS 86 Groomed and in great to excellent condition. Powerline section has filled in nicely!
Pleasant Pond Trail Groomed and in excellent condition.

Caratunk Spur Groomed and in great condition.
Northern Outdoors Park and Ride: Open!

We were hit with the repair bug.. we have one groomer returning this week after a rear end failure took out the ARB air locker and ring and pinion. We had a drag failure waiting on parts, we have our new groomer down with transmission issues and electrical gremlins being shipped back to track inc, another goomer had an alternator fail and a few other minor issues. These are costly repairs and we need your support. So please, join the club and or donate – click the links below.

Our groomer operators have been grooming round the clock and going above and beyond to make these trails what they are!

The Forks Area Snowmobile Trails- Video Trail Report – February 12th, 2025

For this week’s video trail report for The Forks Area Snowmobile Trails, Zach went south on ITS 87 along the Moxie Mountain overlook trail. Trails have continued to see snow showers since the last video 2 weeks ago, maintaining decent riding across our trail system. Woods still have thin spots, unplowed roads are great. Good news- we’ve received 4″ so far (as of 11am) from the Thursday storm, and it’s still snowing… AND there’s another BIGGER storm in store for Sunday! All of this snow will fill in the woods nicely, putting us in great shape for riding. Next week is vacation week, so groomer’s will be out nightly keeping things in tip top shape for the busy week. Ride right, ride safe, and have fun!

February 7th, 2025
Trailmaster Ben’s most recent trail report was posted Thursday, 2/6 – read on for all the details. Lucky for us, we received about 3-5″ (depending on elevation) of fresh snow overnight Thursday night, plus another 3-6″ in store for Sunday. Kennebec River Pub & Brewery is open daily, 7am-9pm, and the park and ride at Northern Outdoors is plowed and open. Happy riding!

The Forks Area Trails Report – February 6th, 2025

A very active pattern in the next week or so to bring much more snow to the area. Keep doing the “snow dance”. Cold temps have helped keep what we have and a few more inches since we last reported.

ITS 87 Groomed and in good condition. Sections in the woods are thin, most notably around Moore’s bog area south of Pleasant Pond. After that, a beautiful ride.
ITS 86 Groomed and overall in good to great condition. Powerline sections around Moxie Pond are thin but passable. Reminder trail follows Indian Pond Road powerline on the woods line. Best sections are north of powerline on Loop Road and Dyer Road where we meet the Greenville club. Please stay on the trail.

Snowmobile Trail Conditions Report: The Forks, Maine March 2025

The Forks Area Snowmobile Trails Update- March 7th, 2025

Our trails held up better than we expected. We have a varied conditions throughout, but the extra couple of inches of snow at the end of the rain really helped. As far as conditions, expect a mix. There is a lot of water and slush in places, the woods and in town sections are thin but very passable. Pleasant Pond Trail, Bald Mountan Trail and Breakneck Ridge Trail towards Blanchard are in good shape and will be groomed tonight.

We will be grooming all weekend.

ITS 86 We are opening up the black nubble trail as ITS86 tonight, this was the old ITS86 off from the Shirley tote road. This will be a nice fresh trail to ride headed to Greenville/Rockwood. The current ITS86 that takes the Powerlines up the Indian Pond Road connecting to the Dyer Road will also remain open.

ITS 87 in fair to good condition. Recommend the Moxie Loop Side, to be groomed tonight. You can connect over to the Pleasant Pond Trail by utilizing Ron’s Trail south of the Moxie Loop on the left.

Note: Kennebec River Trail is CLOSED.

Still good riding out there this weekend!

The Forks Area Snowmobile Trails Report- March 4th, 2025

With the impending rain and warmup we always ask if you can try and stay off the trails. We understand there are trips going on and people already staying places and backpacking etc so we get it. People asking me is the season going to be over… I highly doubt it. The thin areas will be thinner and it will be icy when things cool down. Make sure you have picks and good carbides. We will evaluate after this break and wait on more snow. There will be great off trail riding. Hero riding as we call it… you will be able to use your short track sled like a long track 🙂 and not worry about getting buried..
We will continue grooming when conditions permit.
Thank you.
