Snowmobile Trail Conditions Report: The Forks, Maine January 2025
The Forks Area Trail Report – January 31st, 2025
Notice groomers will be out today.
Trails keep getting better and better, a little more snow this week and more on the way. We are grooming regularly.
ITS 87 Most of the system is groomed. We will be finishing the connection today to Bingham, they have groomed as of last night. In town is thin but very passable.
ITS 86 Groomed and overall in good to great condition. Powerline sections around Moxie Pond are thin but passable. Trail follows Indian Pond Road powerline on the woods line. You’re rewarded with some great conditions on the Loop and Dyer Road. Please stay on the trail, we know it’s not ideal with the low snow conditions but a reminder unless otherwise noted, no snowmobiling on plowed roads. It’s not just a risk for a ticket, it’s a landowner request. We do not want to lose this critical access point. We have worked hard to secure this access this year.
Pleasant Pond Trail Groomed and in great condition. You can head on ITS87 south to connect with this trail, connect to the Bald Mountain Trail, then to the Breakneck Ridge Trail over to the Shirley Tote Road / CCC Road for the best connection to Greenville and Monson area.
Bald Mountain Trail Groomed and in great condition.
Breakneck Ridge Trail Groomed and in great condition. Connection to Blanchard remains closed, temp rerouted to York road/Shirley Tote Road.
Moxie Mtn Loop Trail Will be groomed today.
Kennebec River Trail Ungroomed until we get more snow but passable.
Moxie Falls Trail Ungroomed but passable.
Caratunk Spur Ungroomed but passable.

The Forks Area Trail Report – January 24th, 2025
Groomers in The Forks area have been out the past couple of days working with what we’ve got– they’ve groomed and/or panned much of our system, and are reporting some decent riding in addition to some thin areas. As you get out of town towards Jackman, conditions improve- with nice riding being reported on from Border Riders Sportsman’s Club. The benefit to this year as opposed to early last year is we’ve had super consistent cold temps- so things have locked up real nice, and we haven’t lost any of the snow we’ve gotten. Now, we could definitely use more snow- that would fill in the thin spots. But, can you ride? Yes, you can! Northern Outdoors/Kennebec River Brewery will be open the following hours this weekend/next week so you can stop on by! The hill behind the lodge is thin, but has been detoured around the toughest section. If you venture that way, just follow signs!
Kennebec River Brewery Hours starting January 25th:
Saturday, Sunday: 7am-9pm
Monday – Friday: 11am-9pm
Read on for Trailmaster Ben’s latest update–
While some of you may be trailering to Louisiana this week for the fresh powder, we do have riding and some decent local trails to explore.
There is no sugar coating the fact we need more snow, but… there are some very good areas to play on. Treat as early season riding conditions and think back to when you were a kid… being on a sled on some trails is better than staying at home. What’s also better is getting out with your friends and family, going for a short ride, and visiting the local watering holes and eating, drinking and telling tall tales to your favorite staff member. Stay the night, heck maybe ride out and help do some brushing on a trail.
ITS 87 Partially groomed/panned. In town is passable but won’t be groomed until more snow. Just out of town, just east and south of Inn by the River, trail is groomed all the way to the Pleasant Pond Trail. Various conditions.
ITS 86 groomed/panned through. Trail this year follows the powerlines up the Indian Pond Road to the Dyer Road. Use caution on the powerlines. At our turn around at the Greenville/Rockwood intersection is ungroomed but Greenville is going out tonight to try and get to that spot. Certainly passable.
Pleasant Pond Trail Groomed/panned through. Mixed bag. Some really really good areas on this trail.
Bald Mountain Trail Partially groomed. The upper portion on Shirley Tote Road is plowed so avoid that section. Bottom section is in really good shape. Trail to windmills is closed.
Breakneck Ridge Trail groomed/panned and eastern side is now open through the York Road back to the Shirley Tote Road / ccc road. Trail to Blanchard is temp closed for logging. Trail is in very good condition considering.
Kennebec River Trail Ungroomed. Passable but the steep hill by the cemetery is for advanced riders only. And for those who really are looking for reasons to buy new carbides.
Caratunk Spur Ungroomed but passable.
Moxie loop trail Ungroomed but passable.
Moxie falls trail Ungroomed but passable.
I will be posting an updated map today.
Thank you. Please get out, support the businesses, watch the football games up here.

The Forks Area Trails Update

Club Updates โ
(Trails, Work Detail, and Poker Run)
Trail Conditions
The trails are in a bit of a “snow limbo” right now. We need a solid storm to really get things rollingโunfortunately, a couple of inches just wonโt cut it. Current snow coverage ranges from a few inches in the lower areas to about a foot in the higher elevations. Are the trails open? Well, technically, noโbut if youโre feeling adventurous and want to explore, we wonโt stop you. Just keep in mind that not all signage is up, as weโre still working on some sections of trails (see below- work day coming up!)
Weekend Poker Run
Yes, the poker run is still happening this weekend! Itโs a multi-day event, so make sure to get out there and support the clubs and businesses that have worked tirelessly to clear and maintain the trails. That last storm did a number on some areas, but the community has really pulled together to make it happen.
Trail Work Day โ Saturday
This Saturday, weโre hosting a trail work day, and weโd love to have you join us! Bring your sleds, side-by-sides, brush saws, and a can-do attitude. Once we wrap up, weโll be hitting up the local watering holes to toast to our hard workโbecause nothing pairs better with trail clearing than a little post-work celebration.
If youโre interested in helping, reach out to myself, Jeremy Parker , or Keven Griffiths (see Facebook post here)
Quick note for trail cleanup crews: Weโre looking to clear a 12 x 12 x 12 section wide enough for the groomer to get through. A few volunteers have already gone through and declared some areas “good to go,” but unfortunately, itโs only wide enough for sleds. Letโs fix that!
Thank You for Your Patience
Cold temperatures are doing wonders for freezing the groundโitโs better than weโve seen in years. Weโre optimistic that when the snow comes, weโll have an excellent base to work with. In the meantime, donโt forget to support the local businesses that keep things running up here in the winter. Itโs all part of the system, and every bit helps.
