Maine River Tubing with Northern Outdoors

I may be a bit bias, but I have tons of reasons why you should choose Northern Outdoors for your Maine river tubing trip – whether you’re a big group of friends in search of the next best place to bring your cooler, a family looking for an afternoon adventure, or a couple looking to relax in the sunshine. But, I’ll narrow it down for you…

Ditch the Saco River – Here’s Why You Should Choose Northern Outdoors for your Maine River Tubing Trip:

1. Northern Outdoors Has the Best River Tubes

Ok, hear me out. Northern Outdoors infamously (ok, maybe not) used inflatable kayaks for years. We still do on our Kennebec River rafting trips– every raft gets one for the lower river float. But, due to popular demand, we’ve switched out the kayaks for river tubes on our afternoon float trips for Summer 2026. And let me tell you- we didn’t skimp. These Rocky Mountain Raft river tubes are big, heavy duty, and comfortable! You can relax and float down the lower Kennebec River, or tether up your tube to your friends for a floatilla! Want to bring along a cooler filled with snacks and bevs? We recommend adding on an extra tube!

2. It’s Your Own Private Maine Tubing Trip – and it’s Better than the Saco River!

Our Maine river tubing trips are always small groups, or larger groups of people that book together– with a max of 24 people on any given day. So, even if you’re riding solo — once you get on the river you can stay as close or as far from others as you’d like. The river is your oyster, my friend! Interested in exploring a little side cove? Go for it – it’s YOUR trip!

3. You Float, We’ll Take Care of the Shuttle

Like we said above, Northern Outdoors takes care of all the driving for your Maine river tubing trip, so you don’t have to worry about driving back up to get your vehicle! Plus, unlike any other tubing location in Maine, there’s a lot waiting for you when you get back — including your own private cabin nestled into the woods, a full service restaurant with deck seating, and did we mention the small, craft brewery located ON-SITE at Northern Outdoors? I’m pretty sure you’ll want to stick around for awhile, so you might want to grab yourself a cabin.

So, how does this sound to you? If you’re ready to float on Maine’s rivers- give us a call or send us an email. If you want to learn more, read up on the float trip details, explore cabin rentals, check out the restaurant menu, and see what beers will be on tap at the lodge. Prefer more whitewater? We offer whitewater rafting trips on all 3 of Maine’s rivers, plus great discounts for Mainers!

  1. I could float this section of river every afternoon! Friends, river, beer,… summer in Maine is golden. Good point, Emily, that a kayak houses a cooler more safely than a tube. Safety first!

    1. We’re all about keeping ourselves – and our beverages – safe and comfortable when floating the lower river 🙂 See you out there!
