It’s all about that base. The snow over past past week and the cold weather helped our system and it keeps getting better. Trails in the woods are thin, roads are really good. Plenty of good riding to be had. Please use extreme caution because there are many holes, crossings not filled in with snow yet.
ITS 87 Groomed. Trails in woods are thin, road sections are very good.

January 16th, 2026 Snowmobile Trail Conditions Update
Wednesday night into Thursday saw a warm up in temps and a bit of rain. Thursday night, temps dropped and locked everything right back up. Zach took a ride yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, and we’ve been chatting with riders today – the message is consistent: it’s thin in places, but all passable. It gets better as you go north- Jackman got mostly snow from the last event, from what we understand. But, we did speak with a couple of guys who rode in from Bingham and were surprised at how decent much of the ride was. Thankful for the solid base! Conditions around Northern Outdoors and The Forks should still be considered “early season riding”. Take your time as coverage is thin, and there is likely to be some bobbing and weaving in town and in the woods. Poker Run starts today (Friday) and lasts through Sunday at 1pm — stop on by our local businesses to support the clubs, whether by sled or by car!
Don’t forget- we have our FREE park and ride located about 1/4 mile south of Northern Outdoors. We also have a new parking set up at the lodge, with sled parking right out front.

January 10th, 2026 Snowmobile Trail Conditions Report
We’ve had folks stop in to the lodge for lunch today (Saturday) with overall positive reports! They said roads are in great shape with nice riding, woods sections are thin and there are some places with very minimal coverage. Overall vibe: get out there and ride, take your time, and enjoy.
Trailmaster Report:
We sent the groomer out panning and opening some trails. (Panning is blades up, rear packer pan compacting)
Reminder its very early riding conditions with marginal to low snow cover. That means the roads are decent, but the woods sections are poor.
Expectations for riding is slow pace, exploring and getting outside. If you have new carbides, probably sit this one out.
Note a lot of clubs are still not open, so don’t expect long journeys..
Just manage expectations and have fun and visit the local watering holes.
We have plenty of brushing that always needs to be done as well. Message us and we will tell you where. (Winter cut from in town on 87/86 towards moxie).
Don’t forget to join the club and or donate!

January 8th, 2026 Trail update
Groomers went out today to pan most of The Forks Area Trails system. We received 2-4″ of heavy snow yesterday, which was just enough to get out there. Woods connectors are thin but very passable. Roads are surprisingly good right now. The hill behind Northern Outdoors is still the thinnest spot and there are thin spots where you’re cuffing some rocks. We hope for another 2″ or so over the weekend, and not much for rain. We will post another update as soon as we hear more. If you decide to ride, consider it early season conditions. It’s not perfect; but you can ride- so get out there!
HUGE SHOUTOUT to Ben, Wyatt, Dom, and co for all of the work on the ITS 87 connector trail from Northern Outdoors. They straightened out the tighter corners, improved base and drainage. It looks GREAT- thank you all for your work!
Hope to see everyone soon!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year from all of us here at Northern Outdoors! The trails have a solid base, temps are low, and we are anxiously awaiting a little more snow so the groomers can make the magic happen. In the meantime, Northern Outdoors cabin rentals are available 7 days/week, and our on-site restaurant and brewery, Kennebec River Brewery, is open nightly serving delicious food and fresh brews!
Get your Forks Area Trails Club membership up to date, and get ready to ride… we’re almost there!
Coming up soon- the annual Poker Run! Yes, the poker run is still happening next weekend, January 16th- 18th, 2026. It’s a multi-day event, so make sure to get out there and support the clubs and businesses in our little neck of the woods. We can’t wait to see you all, whether by sled or by car!
The Forks Area Trail Report – December 31st, 2025
Are the trails open? Kinda… wait what? Well they are not being groomed. We need a good 6 plus inches to get out there to start the season so do the snow dance!
The plus is it’s been very cold, the base will be great.
It will come.
So.. while all the trails have been signed and cleared, there is always work to be done. So if you want to venture out, bring a saw, some shears etc, Go have some fun! Just at a slower pace…
If you have an atv or sxs with tracks, this is your time to shine!
Get out, take pictures, visit the businesses open who support the system, report back to us. Any day outside on the trails is a good day!
