Northern Outdoors thrives in creating an atmosphere that is perfect for enjoying a high quality handcrafted beer, but also to really kick back, relax, and escape in beautiful western Maine. We vacationed Friday to Monday and stayed in the Baxter lakeside house. What a beautiful location. The owners at the lodge were so friendly !!! We rented their kayaks for the day on Saturday which was so awesome! Sunday we white water rafted.
All in all, another fantastic trip (this makes 9 now). The girls have a new found respect for the trip the dads go on annually and want to go and do them now too. Onto the Dead in 2014 for the girls and the dads will hit the Kennebec Turbine Test again – maybe this time we wont flip on Maytag
We had a great time rafting with Northern Outdoors however our trip didn’t go exactly as planned. This was our second time rafting and we had heard that the Penobscot was the best in New England, so when it came time to book the river selection seemed obvious!

These guides use GoPros to shoot whitewater rafting video and stills on Maine’s three most popular whitewater rivers, the Kennebec, the Dead, and the Penobscot.
I was placed in charge of planning Bachelor Party weekend for a group of 8 guys, with only one pre-requisite from the groom to be. He wanted to go White Water Rafting and he heard that Northern Outdoors was the best place to do it. Following his lead, I organized our group and contacted Northern Outdoors to begin planning our trip. The staff I spoke to by phone were very informative, and made booking a breeze…
We would all definitely recommend Northern Outdoors on the Penobscot River to anyone, and we plan on coming back next year!
Overall, great 36 hours were spent with NO again. Cabin was nice, rafting was great and all of the guides and support staff were awesome. Can’t wait to head back for a little daddy / daughter trip on the Kennebec later this year.
But from the moment we arrived, everything went great. You guys really have everything planned out well, from the daily schedule to the transportation to the river to the fantastic lunch we had during our rafting trip! Our guide was Brent, who was awesome! This is our family’s second rafting trip, and it far surpassed our first trip.
