Snowmobile Trail Conditions Report: The Forks, Maine March 2022

As of March 20th, our groomers are no longer grooming and Northern Outdoors lodge and Kennebec River Pub & Brewery are closed until we reopen May 6th for the summer season! Thank you all for a great winter on the trails.

THE FORKS TRAIL REPORT 3/14/2022

We received anywhere from 5-10″ on our system, depending on location, and this snow did wonders for the trails. We had three groomers out Sunday night working some magic. Because of the wet heavy snow and windy conditions, all the guys dealt with blow downs and a lot of hanging brush. In town sections are in fair condition. We made several passes over areas we haven’t gotten to due to the weather.

ITS 87: In good to great shape. Some areas are wind blown.
ITS 86 : In good to excellent condition. The powerline section is pretty thin and rough, but the rewards on the other side are worth it.
Kennebec River Trail: Groomed and in great condition.
Bald Mountain Trail: Groomed and in excellent condition.
Pleasant Pond Trail: Groomed and in excellent condition.
Breakneck Ridge Trail: Groomed and in excellent condition.
Caratunk Spur: Groomed and in excellent condition.
Wind Farm Trail: Groomed and in excellent condition.

THE FORKS TRAIL REPORT 3/9/2022

We have gone out and assessed many of our trails. It’s not all bad… actually our base is very good still. Its better than the last warm up spell we had a few weeks ago.

So yes, we need more snow.

All the trails are passable. There are sections that are very good, flat, fast. Those sections are outside of town and out of the rough woods sections. Example: Pleasant Pond, Bald Mountain, Breakneck Ridge and Wind Farm Trails are in very good condition with some icy sections.

ITS 87 and 86 have their spots where some dirt is starting to show and lots of ice sections. Use caution.

If you have picks and scratchers I do not see why you can’t go anywhere on our system. I would avoid the Kennebec River Trail steep hill. Icy and a lot of dirt, rocks showing.

Pictures here show the variety of conditions you will encounter. The biggest challenge right now is the rock hard surface and lots of ice. The surface WILL loosen up as traffic gets on it.

With that said we will not be grooming until we get more snow. 1) Because there just isn’t enough material to work with and 2) it’s very icy.
Treat the trails as late season riding but there is still plenty of places to get to from here.

THE FORKS TRAIL REPORT 3/8/2022

We will be assessing today, but likely will not be grooming unless we get more snow. We expect all our trails to be passable but pay attention to down trees from the wind storms last night.

Trails will be very icy. Areas out of town have enough snowpack and will hold up.
We are keeping a keen eye on this Fridays storm.

Here is the report from Coburn Summit Riders, just to our north.
